A Constitutional Right to Harass, Intimidate, and Bully?

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Following the Mock Board presentation, this session will discuss students' First Amendment rights to free expression and the tension between those rights and other students' rights to be free from harassment, intimidation and bullying. With real-life examples from reported judicial decisions, attendees will learn what kinds of student conduct is constitutionally protected, what is not, and what school administrators and boards of education may -- and must -- do to respect students' rights to free expression and also protect students from conduct which might be characterized as harassment. The session will also touch on employees' and board members' First Amendment rights, and the limits of their rights to free expression on matters pertaining to the schools.
